Tate Sparrow

Tate Modern "Dying Sparrow"

Scandinavian artists Michael Elmgreen and Ingar Dragset commissioned Crawley Creatures to realise their vision for the contemporary (and controversial) 'Untitled' series, exhibited at the Tate Modern in 2004.

Trapped between two panes of glass in the gallery, the sparrow, which is barely 10cm in length, is linked to a computer which controls the movements of the death throes.

So lifelike is the sparrow that Tate staff saw fit to warn the RSPB that passers-by may call them to say that a small bird had become trapped within the window space!
