For the BBC's Horizon programme The Mystery of the Human Hobbit we produced prosthetic make up for the 'hobbit'. The show documented the discovery of a new species of mini human on the Indonesian island of Flores.

The task of transforming Shahana into the hobbit was an arduous one... mainly for her!

The gel filled silicone appliance had fine facial hair and eyebrows inserted into the surface.

Our performer Shahana was chosen for her fine features and slight stature to resemble the one metre tall ‘Hobbit’.

Poor Shahana was virtually naked for the whole day in the wind and rain of a late summer day but she was very determined and professional.

Our filming took place over a day in a fantastic cave in the Lake District of England. The large cave mouth very closely resembled the cave in Indonesia where the skeletons where found.
