Big Al

Big Al

The Ballad of Big Al is the story of an Allosaurus, a large carnivorous dinosaur who lived in the Late Jurassic around 145 million years ago. 'Big Al' is the name given to a real Allosaurus fragilis skeleton which was found near Howe Quarry in the Morrison Formation of North America.

For this BBC production from the Walking With Big AlDinosaurs family, Crawley Creatures worked extensivley on location in Utah and Arizona. We made an Animatronic Big Al head and support rig (pictured) and a 12th scale puppet Allosaurus for miniature shots of Allos feeding and getting stuck in mud and tar pits.

Other models made for this project included a 12th scale miniature Diplodocus body, and two baby allosaurus animatronic figures and eggs for a hatching sequence.
